About Ojai's Cooking School
The Ojai Culinary Studio offers small, relaxed culinary classes for all ages and levels of expertise. This friendly culinary school is located in the heart of lovely Ojai approximately 15 miles northeast of Ventura in the Central Coast region of California.
Nancy Michali, owner and principal instructor, has more than 30 years of cooking experience along with professional training in Los Angeles and San Francisco. All of the classes are held in a welcoming environment born of Nancy’s original open house buffets held for many years in her own home. Just outside is a kitchen garden which is incorporated into the culinary classes and also stands as a symbol for the way Nancy prefers to cook – with fresh, local, seasonal ingredients.
At the Ojai Culinary Studio, a cooking class does more than teach culinary skills – it seeks to convey to students the creative nature of cooking, enjoyment of the process and the pleasure of sharing the end results. Nancy chose the word “studio” to emphasize the artistic and social nature of cooking.
This cooking school offers a wide range of classes including baking classes with such themes as crème brûlée, sweet yeast breads and crêpes. Enjoy a class with a visiting connoisseur who presents a tasting and dinner menu featuring tequila. For the harried and the hurried, Nancy teaches a class in making multiple meals from five ingredients found at Trader Joe’s. Students can kick off their week by preparing tapas and enjoying with a glass of wine of Sunday night.
